Running for Riley

Dear Friend,

It is our pleasure to invite you to join us again this year for the third annual Running for Riley event. At our run last year, over 150 participants came together at White Park in Concord, New Hampshire to raise awareness of peroxisomal disorders and funds for much needed research on these devastating, rare, childhood diseases!

Our son, Riley, was born on May 28th 2012, and is one of 100 children living in the US with a peroxisomal (per-ox-is-ome-ul) disorder. Riley’s disorder causes hearing and vision issues, neurological issues, adrenal insufficiency, a wide variety of other medical challenges, and is almost always fatal in childhood. In spite of this devastating diagnosis, Riley has an amazing life! He attends school at Abbott- Downing School and is considered a beacon of hope among his peers. Riley enjoys playing the piano with his mother, listening to Macklemore, bright lights, loud noises, and being outdoors. Riley loves spending days engaging with what White Park has to offer. Riley delights in standing and playing the musical chimes at the playground, and being pushed on the swings.

Running For Riley is an event our family has organized for the last 3 years to help raise awareness for those families affected by rare diseases, and to celebrate the health of those fortunate enough to participate. The proceeds from the event will go to the Global Foundation for Peroxisomal Disorders (www.thegfpd.org). The GFPD has provided our family with support, guidance, advanced medical expertise, and the feeling of family for almost six years now. This annual event will be held each year in Riley’s name.

We hope to see this event grow and become a staple in the Concord community to bring families together in support of peroxisomal research. Thank you for your continued support.

With hope,

Karly and Shawn Moseley
