School District Voter Information - November 5, 2024

On Tuesday, November 5, there are five items on the ballot for the Concord School District.

  • Board of Education members – six candidates for 3 districtwide seats

  • Treasurer - one candidate for treasurer

  • Clerk - one candidate for clerk

  • Ballot questions - two proposed amendments to the school district’s charter

School District Charter

The School District is governed by a charter.

In November 2021, a Charter Commission was elected to review the Charter. Supporting materials and meeting minutes are included on the website.

Ballot Questions – Proposed Charter Amendments

Question 1 – Location of Schools

"No Concord public school existing as of January 1, 2024, including but not limited to the District's middle school, (Rundlett Middle School), shall be relocated from the parcel on which it was situated as of January 1, 2024, to be rebuilt or replaced elsewhere, without an affirmative simple majority vote of Concord School District voters voting on the question ratifying such relocation. This amendment shall be effective immediately upon passage."

Not recommended by the Concord School District Board by a vote of 8 to 0

The Concord Board of Education and the Concord School District have been working on a new middle school since 2017. On December 6, 2023, the Board of Education approved district-owned land at Broken Ground as the location for a new middle school.

Board members were concerned about the higher cost of rebuilding at South Street (Rundlett location), the disruption to students at both Rundlett and Abbot-Downing and the compact site.

Question 2 – Sale or Exchange of Real Estate

“No parcel of real property owned by the Concord School District, larger than one acre, shall be sold, gifted, or exchanged by the District without an affirmative simple majority vote of Concord School District voters voting on the question. This amendment shall be effective immediately upon passage.”
